Sun protection starts at the top. Safeguard against wrinkles and harmful sun exposure by wearing a hat whenever you’re outside. Hats are a perfect complement to UV-filtering sunglasses and broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect your face and eyes.
Our hats were sent to the California Polytechnic State University. They were tested at the Textiles Laboratory and came back with glowing reviews. Our hats were tested specifically with the intention of finding out their UV transmittance rate. They scored UPF 50+ (a zero UV transmittance score!)
What is UPF 50+? Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) indicates how much UV radiation (both UVB and UVA) a fabric allows to reach your skin. UPF 50+ blocks 98% of the sun's rays and allows only 2% to penetrate, thus reducing your exposure risk significantly.
To check a hat's sun safety hold it up to the light. If you can see through, UV radiation can easily penetrate the fabric and reach your skin. The tight weave of our hats blocks those harmful rays.
For the best sun protection:
- Choose a hat with a 3" brim or larger
- Hats with vents (lattice) will not provide full protection to the open area
- Water, sand, snow and pavement can reflect the sun. Use sunglasses and sunscreen with your hat.
- The more skin your clothing covers, the better your protection. Whenever possible, choose loose-fitting, dark colored, long-sleeve tops and long pants for the ultimate sun protection.
